World Record Holder – Blackfish
Capt. Tom Mikoleski
Capt. Tom Mikoleski is an Outdoor Writer/Author who retired as a Sergeant from the NYPD in 2006. Capt. Tom was awarded his first USCG license in 1994. Initially, Capt. Tom’s chartering service was based on Western Long Island. However, his passion for striper fishing resulted in an inevitable move to Montauk, NY, the “Striped Bass Capital of the World.”
Since the mid 80’s hundreds of Capt. Tom’s fishing articles have appeared in various Outdoor Publications. In 2013, Capt. Tom’s first book, Bass Buff-A Striper Fishing Obsession Guide , was published and received outstanding reviews and kudos from the angling community.
The Grand Slam is a 35-ft Custom Built T-Jason design powered by a powerful, reliable Caterpillar engine with limited diesel exhaust fumes. Capt. Tom worked very closely with the builder in order to get the boat “just right” for Montauk Charter Fishing comfort.
Capt Marco DeStefano
Capt Marco began fishing as a young child with his father and got hooked! From a 14′ Grumman to a 18′ CC and 21’CC, Capt Marco primarily began fishing Long Islands North Shore. Soon the allure of scenery and fishing found in Montauk brought him to move ports. Easily logging 200 hours a year on the water in Montauk, Marco spends time fishing and exploring various structures and nooks that Montauk’s bottom has to offer in his primary search for doormat fluke.
The Misty Dawn II is his newest addition as of the 2017 fishing season. This 35′ Maine Coaster is powered by twin volvo Penta diesels. If being put on the fish is not enough, this boat is also known for its spacious cockpit and good sea-keeping making it deal for comfort when chartering.
John Skinner is the author of the books Fishing the Bucktail and A Season on the Edge, and a contributing writer to the book The Hunt for Big Stripers. He is the long-time Surf Fishing Columnist and former Editor-in-Chief of Nor’east Saltwater Magazine. He has written many articles for Nor’east Saltwater, On the Water, and The Surfcaster’s Journal. His videos on the John Skinner Fishing YouTube channel are known to anglers worldwide. He is the creator of the fishing log software, FishersLog. Skinner is a frequent speaker at outdoor shows and has a well-earned reputation as a consistent producer of trophy striped bass from the surf. He holds the current New York State false albacore record. When not plying the beaches, he can often be found fishing from his kayak, or Scuba diving in Long Island Sound. He holds degrees in Biology and Computer Science.

Capt. John Capuano

Paul has been an avid fly fisherman for 30 years. He has fished in South America, Montana and up and down the East Coast. Paul enjoys fishing for trout in local rivers. He also likes catching stirpers with his favorite fly – the gurgler. Paul belongs to many fishing and conservation groups where he gives talks about the local waters. One of his most popular talks is “Great Fishing on One Tank of Gas -150 Mile Radius of Fishing Spots.” Paul is also a licensed guide. People often ask for his trip to the Housatonic for small mouth bass. Paul also ties flies. He has taught classes for both the Long Island Flyrodders and Trout Unlimited. Paul participated as a celebrity fly tyer at the International Fly Tying Symposium. Paul is also a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor for Fishing and Fly Fishing. Paul especially enjoys the sport of fishing when he involves his family. He and his wife, Julie, have fished in Yellowstone, the Ausable and Montauk. Their children, Lauren, Jimmy, Owen and Tessa have put waders on and fished along side them in Connecticut and the Catskills. Owen enjoys fly tying and can often be found in the shop tying the Half and Half on Saturdays. Tessa donates her own Sparkly Pink pattern to the shop to help raise money for local animal shelters. Paul has a passion for the outdoors and fly fishing in particular. He hopes to see you soon at River Bay Outfitters.
Capt. John Paduano
One of Long Islands top anglers, Capt John is most notably known for his versatility when it comes to fishing Long Island. Trailering his 25′ Parker CC, you may see Capt. John one day fishing out of Moriches only to hear that the next day or even tide, hes launched out of Orient. Capt John knows this island very well and knows whats going down and where it is happening. Capt John is also very well known for his invention and teaching of a technique called SNAP JIGGING. From surf, boat or skiff, this deadly method of working an artificial lure has caught nearly every species in our local waters and waters afar.
Jake is a 17 year old angler that spends much of his free time on his kayak or building custom rods or doing anything fishing related. A member of KFA-NY, Jake is a highly respected angler. Do not let his age fool you into believing that Jake is anything short of an excellent kayak angler. Jake also spends much of the fishing season working on a local Port Jefferson based fishing boat. While his presentation is geared more towards a younger audience, anglers of all ages will learn a lot from what he is about to share
Ever since I was a young kid I enjoyed sportfishing. Whether it was casting soft plastics to Largemouth Bass or fishing for Fluke in the Great South Bay. Eventually I learned about the Sport of surfcasting. The moment he hooked and landed his first Striped Bass from the surf I was hooked. During the season I can be found hunting Striped Bass, Blues and Weakfish anywhere from Montauk to Robert Moses Beach Several Nights a week. Fishing is my passion and my livelihood. By day I spend my time working at J&J Sports in Patchogue, building rods, repairing reels and sharing my knowledge with customers so they can have a great fishing experience.
Capt Jerry McGrath
Jerry McGrath is a seasoned fisherman, avid photographer and an award-winning instructor. He has fished in numerous locales including his favorite haunt, Elfin Cove, Alaska, where he as returned to year after year since 2000. Jerry has given many presentations featuring his breathtaking photographs and videos which capture the full experience of sportfishing in Alaska. In addition, to his seminar, you may also visit him today at his “Captured McGraphics” display booth.
Capt Mike Bady
Captain Mike began fishing the North Fork at 8 years of age with his Dad, from rented rowboats in Peconic Bay. He now has over 55 years of experience fishing North Fork and East End waters.
From his earliest trips going forward, his entire focus is on using light tackle techniques to obtain maximum enjoyment from the fishing experience. His love for light tackle is clearly evidenced by the above photograph of a 40# Yellowfin Tuna landed on 20# test line. This accomplishment earned Captain Mike the cover of the Fisherman Magazine in August 2000.
His dedication to this type of excitement is present during every charter we run. Regardless of your age, gender, size, or level of experience, Captain Mike’s patience and ability to clearly communicate the proper technique assures your own personal fishing success.
Captain Mike is a fully licensed and insured Coast Guard Captain, Masters Grade, vessels up to 50 tons.
Capt. Daniel Buckley
Captain Dan Buckley Jr., has taken the helm and is poised to continue the legacy of fishing and fun! This Captain is a third generation Skipper on the North Fork of Long Island, New York. His love of fishing and all things nautical were fostered by his Grandfather,Captain Roddy DeLisle. Captain Dan has over 30 years’ experience steering and working on charter and party boats on the North Fork.
Capt. Thomas Buckley
Capt Tom, also known as TJ, has been working on charter and party boats for over 25 years. He is a resident fishing rig expert. His ability to think like a fish and his innovative rig techniques allow for him to stand apart from other Captains you might meet. The Buck Tales 2 is currently docked out of Orient, NY.
Adam is an avid Long Island Surfcaster & feature writer for On The Water Magazine. He is an advocate for conservation and a member of High Hill Striper Club. Adam lives on the North Shore of Long Island and fishes 150 days a year.
