This event is open to all Ward Melville Students….whether you have participated in a WMHS Fishing Club meeting/trip/activity or if you have not yet done so. Please let your friends know and meet outside on the back grass field just outside the senior patio.
Event will take between 1 and 2 hours (depending on turnout.)
You may choose to participate in one or all of the events.
While you can sign up for any level you want (note that there is a difference in prize value for each level) It is also at the discretion of the event offical (Mr Wilson) to place you in a different level to keep the competition fair.
THE EVENTS
1–DISTANCE CASTING
- Beginner Level– a lure with no hooks has already been picked out and is paired with a 7′ spinning rod. The furthest cast wins. You get three (3) attempts and the furthest of your 3 is what counts.
- Advanced Level — a lure with no hooks has already been picked out and is paired with a 9′ spinning rod. The furthest cast wins. You get two (2) attempts and the furthest of your 2 is what counts.
2–SKILLS EVENT
- Beginner level and Advanced Level Same rules apply
- –on the ground in front of you will be a rod, reel, and lure. You are to put the reel on the rod, sting the line thru the guides and tie a knot onto the lure. You then have to cast and put the lure onto a target area (usually school logo on the 50 yard line) From the moment the official says go, a timer will start. The timer ends when the lure is completely into the target zone.
3–Stand Up Weight Pull
- When the officiant says go, a timer will be started. You are to put on a harness and a fighting belt. You will then pick up a 30# class standup rod and reel that is already attached to some weights between 50 and 100 yards away (TBD). Fastest retrieve on one attempt is the winner. Only 1 category for this event.

2–SKILLS EVENT
- Beginner — Penn Fielrce II Combo (9′ 2-piece rod) Come to a club meeting and we will fill it with braid for you. Total Value of $100
- Advanced — Penn Battalion II (10′ MH) and a Penn Fierce 6000 spinning reel. Come to a meeting to have it filled with braid Total Value $250
3–Stand Up Weight Pull
- Overall — Penn Batallion II Slow pitch casting rod (BATSPJII450C68MH) and Daiwa Saltist 15H Come to a meeting to have your reel filled with braid. Total Value over $460
